The Socialist Party candidate for President of the US, Norman Thomas, said this in a 1944speech: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform."

James thanks for the quote, if we don't learn from history we are doomed.

This seems to be frighteningly prophetic.

if we don't learn from history we are doomed.:... and who would know that better then those who lived it. Ask a person that lived in the past years a question, or for their opinion on a issue and most likely the person asking the question will reply with , old man you are living in the past. Ok, now everyone is on the same sheet of music, no more money for nothing. It is not as if we have NOT been talking about this point in time for years now. I guess we can kick around that tin can of self-pity for a few more months until we are in deeper water. We can blame, blame, blame and fall deep into antipathy. We can take a knee and bowing our heads for big brother’s handouts. What needs to be done and what will be done are two different things. We will pay for the greedy discretions of others as we are pitched backwards into simple living. “They” will go about making tons of cash; we will fight for the scraps. What is new? As I stated, what should be and what is are two different things, we have no “say” in it, that is a give me. So are we going to just sit with heads down in disgust or will we cut off the hard times by embracing the “simple life.” Something coming if you like it or not. Which is not as simple as pushing a credit card through a checkout line. It means work and self-discipline something in all of us. I hate to see those with so much history sit and do nothing but complain. Excusing yourself because no one will listen, maybe it is because you did not tried hard enough. Maybe no one listened because you have conditions added to your advice. Instead of keeping watch over the machine many of us are preoccupied by who loves who, what color your skin is and what one person can do with their body. Now here we stand engulfed in world confusion ALL because we wanted everything but was unwilling to work for it. Nothing wrong with a “simple life”, providing from your own hand, sounds good to me. Like I said many times, you sit and complain, we’ll keep you from starving. Unique IP Code: d58e78f91d85172

I use the term “you” as a general statement James. Let me ask you; how do you know your advice was not taken to heart? Just because you give your advice does not mean you should be given the key to the city. I would stop helping others if a big deal was made of it. Sometimes your advice, anyones for that matter, is stored away. Something you said twenty years ago stopped someone from doing the wrong thing last night. Is that not enough payment, being a positive role model? In addition, yes I understand there are people too thick to see a gift when they are getting one, but that’s their lose, it should not hurt everyone. Unique IP Code: d58e78f91d85172

Now, James, I think that you are selling yourself a mite short. Your life experiences give you the ability to live in the present with the knowledge of "what was," and the hope of "what might come to pass." Your posts are always well thought and well said. I, for one, absolutely do not believe that you are living in the past. Unique IP Code: 8355c0bb1c12234

James R., we must be reading or listening to the same sources. Do you also remember Kruschev saying that in just a few generations, we would be living under the same rules as the people of the Soviet Union. Not by force but by willing acceptance. We really made a huge move in that very direction by electing a party and president that will not stop at simple socialism. The lure of power is obviously too great. There will be the fairness doctrine, the so called practical gun legislation and other losses of freedom to follow the financial ruin of this nation. I cannot believe that the people of this country can be fooled indefinitely by these power mad politicians. The sheer arrogance of a president that demands "immediate" passage of this pork laden bill to prevent a "catastrophe" and then when it is passed, he flies off to Chicago to play some hoops and then on to Denver to display his power to a state that failed to support him in the fashion he desires. Four days later, he finally signs a bill that required immediate passage to head off a catastrophe. Now he goes to Arizona to make the same display and to show poor old John Mccain who really won the election. This has to be the most arrogant man to hold high public office I have ever seen. And no one should see through this facade? And the republicans in congress have no voice and/or the media won't allow any criticism to flow to the public except through conservative avenues. I pray that the people of this great country come to their sences before we have traveled beyond the point of no return. Best wishes and God bless.

May I paraphrase. Those who fail to study the mistakes of the past (history) are doomed to repeat those same mistakes. We made the mistake of assuming that no president could cause this much mischief in so short a period of time. The moderates that voted for him must be going through such a reexamination of their choice as to make them very uncomfortable. These same moderates are the swing votes that can vote him out in four years. Therefore, I predict that the amount of radical legislation and actions by the current party in power and executive branch will antagonize the middle more than Bush ever did. Watch our defence capability be weakened, no money in the stimulus to close the holes in our borders and weak international action. I also predict that the timetable to accomplish as much mischief as possible is fast track plus plus. The damage that can be done in four years will take generations to undo, assuming we have that much time. Meanwhile, best wishes and God bless.

Truth
Go to www.whitehouse.gov scroll down to presidential actions and click to see all of his executive orders so far. He is trying to run this country as a monarch. Monarch means king.

Sam, you are really way out there. Your kind thinks in 180's. It's either a total blind worship and following of the Neocon Nincompoops, Dick, Georgie, Carl, Rummy, Rush et al, whose silver-bullet, high-holiness will think secret, superior thoughts and throw magic nuclear bolts of lightning while we all shudder fearfully under their rule or the Liberal, gunless, gaay, baby-killers with their Nazi/Communist/Socialist/Facist policies will tootle-flute the masses, skipping, dancing, high-on-hope, happily over the edge of the flat earth you believe exists. Your Faux News is currently displaying on it's 'fair and balanced' political shows, graphs giving you zombies a choice of exactly HOW you nutjobs ought to revolt (yes, revolution) against the majority of Americans and against the current administration--two of the choices suggest you all could (1.) "succeed from the Union or (2.) participate in ARMED revolution! Yes, people, look it up. You HATE those who are in the middle or who think differently or who want to live in peaceful strength in hopeful unity, and you are determined to DIVIDE and DESTROY this nation. If you don't like this country, then just leave! But you will be sadly mistaken to think that those who have strength in unity, those who believe in American Dreams and Opportunies for ALL, those who have hope and now the power, those who use their hands to work/minds to think--you will be sadly mistaken to think that these people are WEAK!
