And did any one else go down to Lion's Square last night, bring a lawn chair, buy a grilled hot dog, some pop, to support the Lions who bring us these events, and enjoy our hometown rocker, Scott Blasey of The Clarks?? We sure did! It was a great treat. We got popcorn and candy for the kids, hot dogs for the teenagers, enjoyed a most wonderful Sunday evening in town. When we were teenagers, we used to go to East Park for playground programs, or such and today we have the Lions putting on concerts. It was such a pleasant evening for people of all ages!

Just a note. I haven't participated much over the past decade or so in this town. I also have had a poor attitude of disgust and defeat and lost interest and pride in Connellsville. Became cynical. PEOPLE LISTEN:: There is truly a new air in this town. Participate. Each time a new mural goes up, someone plants a public flower garden, the city gets better and we actually change for the better in a positive direction. When we eat out and we witness out-of-towners in Valley Dairy or Hometown Diner with kayaks on their roofs or bicyclers in Wendy's, it shows us that out-of-towner came here to enjoy what WE have right here! The concert was such a great way to spend the evening. ANY outside music will make us better!

We go every time they have a show. Last night attendance was great. They had a terrific show the week before too. It's about time this town is noticing their local talent. It's the Lions Club, we can thank for the shows.

Thanks guys, and Thank you for not counting me out.We have a lot more planned, it will only get better. Would anyone want the name of the morel artist? She is a very talented person with a studio right here in the City.

I think
it looked better with the new paint job and before the mural . I think it is a little gaudy myself . Not poorly done just do not think it made the building look better. Perhaps artwork displayed on big frame and changed from time to time even by any and all local artists willing to display. And then perhaps have a silent auction to raise money at the end of its display

I respect your opinion that the mural on the side of the Donna Evans building is not to your taste or the style that you would like. Personally, I am very pleased with it and the type of drawing, the flowers, vines, that's exactly what pleases my artistic senses. To me, it exumes of happiness, spring, flowers, bunny rabbits....cheerfulness, renewal. To each his own-I respect your ideas. For this area to prosper and give our young ones a better future, we all need to appreciate and listen each other with an open heart and mind. I also think it's good that you didn't just talk about it not being your style, but you suggested what you would like. That's great!

If you know about the mural, tell us. Who is the artist and would putting their name on here be positive? If so, what other work have they done and where can we see it?

I like your idea on the silent auction and renewable art. Maybe the high school and jr high and even elementary school could hold contests or have a display contest to show their work.

even better
have themes or seasons or history .

it's not
that I do not like it . I just do not feel it belongs on the side of a building. I like the arches and trim helps the plain block wall . But when you do this and say it is art then how can you put down the graffiti that kids put on buildings? Some of that comes from very talented artists too but again does not belong on buildings. However if you give the graffiti artist a place that they are allowed to display and be proud also and then perhaps sell it then everyone wins. Or keep a spot for guest muralists from the community for a period of the .

The artist that painted the newest mural in town is Sheree Lynn Cockrell, a Native of Connellsville. Mrs. Cockrell painted the mural for free to help support the City’s new outlook. Mrs. Cockrell is a seasoned realist that paints primarily in acrylics. She paints for commissions and has sold a list of one of a kind paintings. She was a attendee at the third annual Art on the Yough. Getting anything done is easier then it seems. What you suggest is an important perspective that needs to be heard, however the City only has a hand full of people working on all facets of rejuvenation. Simplicity is the best avenue at this time. As the support grows then they can become more elaborate in their plans. You know making suggestions and having opinion is great, but what really works is being available to help those ideas come to life. Michael Edwards and the Trail town crew cannot do this on their own. Unique IP Code: 0fc616e5e69aedd

I am the artist that is painitng the mural! I have never done graffitt! I have received private oil lessons from two different instructors at the age of eight for 10 years, continue class at Frostburg State College. I have learned in the art world there are many diferent styles, and forms of art. I am a traditonal painter, but appreciate many styes. I was asked to do this mural free of charge. I was glad to do it, because I have lived here 19 years, and this is now my home. Through these economical tough times, I remain positive, We have so many vacant buildings, people losing their homes & jobs. I am doing my best to try and make our community a bright and happy place to live! Unique IP Code: c85fa0752c7ad1e

I'm one person who really appreciates some grafitti as long as it's not gang tags (which are like dogs urinating to mark territory and invite challenge or trouble). I do like that paint that someone sprayed on the adjacent brick building along side the garden plot on Brimstone Corner. It's colorful, but don't know if it's supposed to be there. I like it! And there's some really impressive grafitti painted on sides of railroad cars that pass through the town.

Buy your own building and paint it the way you like.

Sheree--WOW! You have my heartfelt gratitude for what you have done and I think you are very talented. I have talked to several of my friends about that mural and some family from nearby towns are anxious to come in and actually see the changes being made to Connellsville. Your painting that wall so beautifully is changing attitudes. Changing people. Thank you!

???
I think it looks better than a plain wall. I was disappointed when the Medicine Shoppe building blocked the mural of the train on the building that you are painting. Just a side note, I don't think that other person called your work graffiti, they just mentioned it. Carry on.

you
completely misunderstood my posts . I did not say it was bad , in fact it is very good . My only point was I personally do not like stuff like this on buildings. I like architecture and art but not in that way . You need to re read my post for my idea . I did not call it graffiti . I do not criticize any one who has a gift and talent . I merely suggested an alternative outlet for many to express their art . I apologize for the misunderstanding and thank you for your gift to the city. But by you criticizing my view point does not show respect either.
