Connellsville Airport reaches milestone New terminal : John F. Brothers/Tribune-Review News Service By Judy Kroeger Tribune-Review News Service Friday, May 26, 2006 Steel girders, painted an aeronautic steel blue, and wood accents on the ceiling, recall the origin of the new Connellsville Airport terminal: the former Taylor Craft building. The sleek new building offers a view of the runway and incorporates the old building and adds modern amenities, including a spacious lobby, pilots' lounge, conference room and airport offices. Two additional offices will be offered for lease. The building was dedicated Thursday. Fayette County Airport Authority Chairman Fred Davis called the dedication the "latest milestone in a larger and more modern airport in Fayette County. The airport will provide economic development in Fayette County. It blends the old with the new. The (future) runway extension will take us from the old to the new." Dignitaries yesterday spoke of the bright future the airport heralds for the region. "We're only about 50 years behind schedule on this. These projects are a result of a lot of people interested in the development of Fayette County," said state Rep. James Shaner, D-Dunbar. Rick Harner, director of the PennDOT Bureau of Aviation, said the Connellsville Airport represents one facet of a seamless transportation system across the commonwealth. "This is a magnificent facility. Corporate aviation is flying out of airports like this, there is less stress than international airports. I believe this facility will thrive. Our airports are economic generators."
