I think you have done a marvelous job creating this website. It brings back memories of long ago. I wonder if the low stone wall in front of the Methodist church on S.Pittsburgh street is still there? I remember sitting on that wall in 1939 with my girlfriend, who was about to move to California. The next year I graduated from CHS (1940)- then five years of war,as a tail gunner and then as a fighter pilot; the innocent days seemed to disappear fast. Your website rekindled some of the nostalgia of days gone by. Thanks so much for a relly excellent website !! We have a website here on Key Biscayne,(www.key-biscayne.com) but it is ammatourish compared to yours. Keep up the good work !

Thank you for your site. I was contacted by a cousin I never knew I had a couple of months ago. She is wonderful and without your site, we may never have gotten together. If anyone else knows the Helms family of S. Connellsville, please email me. We are trying to research the family tree. As both my parents are deceased now, and seems like most of their brothers and sisters are deceased now, we are having to reach out to the community. We would love to hear stories of any of the Helms family that you knew, if you would share them with us. Thank you, and I am still wanting to find my sister Marty. She was adopted before I was born. I meet her only once when we were small. I would love for her to meet my wife and children, and to know that she is well and happy. Sincerely, Paul, Jr.

I am surprised. You are leaving out one of the most important people of Connellsville today. None other than Mr. Trombone , Harold Betters. I think my grandfather deserves some sort of commendment on the site. I looked all over and found NOTHING about him. Show some respect.

Please kill the ducks at the river front park. I had my 3 and 4 year old children at the park and some ducks went after them, for food, is my guess. But none the less, they dont want to come back. I grew up in So. Connellsville, and the park was one of my hangouts back in the day. PLEASE do something about the DUCKS!!!

Very Educational website! Lots of History here! I too am doing genealogical research in the Fayette/Westmoreland Counties, particularly Connellsville & Scottdale. I have many old family photos and Grandmas stories as leads. I can't wait until you have a genealogy area! Family by blood and marriage include the surnames of Anderson, Native Americans, Williams, Robinson, Goldsborough, Hager, Moyer, Sandusky, McDonald, and Remley. I will have a family history webpage(s)soon... until then if you would like to correspond with me you can reach me at either tirae@mindspring.com or raynelle@hotmail.com. Really enjoy this great Site. I was born in Connellsville in 1943 and lived there until 1953. I get back fairly often as many members of my family still live there on the West Side. My mother's family were the Buteras and my dad's family the Moore's from Brookvale. Would enjoy hearing from anyone who might know any members of my family. (Butera, Mickey, Herchko). Have lived in Ohio many years now, but I still miss Connellsville and the hills of PA. Thanks for this Site and the memories.

Grew up amongst many wonderful relatives in Bullskin Twp. I graduated from CJHS in 1966. My parents,Adam and Pauline Swink both died two years ago. Dad was a conductor with the B&O RR. Can you help me obtain newspaper articles about the murder of my grandmother, Mona Rheba Jaynes? She was killed by her second husband,John "Poke" Jaynes. The date was December 15, 1946. The murder was in South Connellsville. Poke was acquitted on JUne 16,1947. I believe the trial was in Uniontown. I have old cut out articles, but they are yellowed, and glued to other newpapers. My mother, who was 8 years old at the time, was in the house at the time of the shooting. Her name was Pearl Elizabeth Jaynes. She doesn't talk about that time in her life. I am interested in obtaining as much information as possible. Could you possibly point me in the right direction. I thank you for your time. Also, I was born in Connellsville. My maiden name was Roby. I miss my hometown.

Hi! I am adopted and searched for my birth mother. About 5 and a half years ago I had completed my search and found that my birth mother, Carmella (Peggy) Margaret Martucci (Basinger) had passed away. Since she has passed on many of my questions have not been answered even though other family members have shared as much as they could. If any one knew my birth mother growing up or in her adult life. Plese email me. I would love to correspond and hear your stories. Karen

I'm still trying to research an ancestor born in Pennsville, PA George Washington Kiple on Jan. 1, 1831..I realize this was in the early days of Bullskin Twp, however there's got to be someone or some documents out there that might help me tie him in? Thanks for having a site for Connellsville nearby, I have already called people, hired a researcher and tried to find records from those early years...so far nothing... but would love to hear some ideas... My family sprouted to become one of the largest in Connellsville, BALSLEY. I am looking for any information on this family I can find. Can any one from this city help me find out certain things for my family tree? How did William Balsley, the auctioneer, die in Nov. 1849....someone said it was violence. Would someone look up that newspaper and tell me what happened? Thanks so much!!!!!

This website is terrific! I grew up in Trotter, Pa. and graduated from Dunbar Twp. High School in 1963. I currently live in Mechanicsville, Md. My mother, Thelma Fant, resides with my family. I do get back to Connellsville every 5 years for my DTHS class reunion. I see one of my classmates, Sandy Keffer, has signed the Guest Book. I also see some other familiar names. Again, this is a great idea.

Thank you for your webpage, it is great. My wife is working on my family tree and we would like to hear from anyone who knew or knows about the HELMS family. The lived in S Connellsville. My grandfather Edward Helms built his home next to the river near the glass factory. He had 13 kids, George, Blanche, Edna, Edward Jr, Sara, Ralph, Laura, Elizan, Ida, Arawona, Paul, Pauline, & Donald. My parents are both deceased and I never learn much from them about the family. I would also like to find my sister, Marty. She was given up for adoption before I was born. She was raised by a lady named Susie. She is married and heard she has 6 children which include a set of twins. I would like to meet and get to know you Marty, if you would let me. Sincerely your brother, Paul.

I have enjoyed reading about Connellsville and Col Wm Crawford he is my greatgrandfather 6 times removed. Nancy Connell his daughter with Ann Connell was my greatgrandmother 5 times removed. Nancy married a neighbor of theirs Thomas Mounts son of Providence Mounts. Thomas and Nancy moved to York Township in Switzerland County Indiana in around 1804. In all our family records she is always called the daughter of Col William Crawford burned at the stake on Sandusky Plains in 1782.
