I found the old s of Connellsville very interesting. I do remember seeing some of them in a bi-centenial book my aunt had of the South Connellsville area several years ago. Places change, people change -but Jesus Christ will never change(Hebrews 13:8).

Hello, just checking to see if anyone I went to school with might happen to be out there. Graduated in 1960 from good ole C'ville High. Love those "Cokers" I guess most folks my age don't mess with the computor that much. I'm new at it myself. Lived on S. Arch St. above the stadium. Would sure like to hear from old school chums. Bye bye

I found about this site through my brother. I graduated from CAHS in 1976, and I've always wanted to leave this area, but looking at the pictures and reading the positive comments helps me to get a different perspective. I appreciate the hard work that went into this site. Perhaps a few more pictures from the 50s and 60s would be considered as an addition. Keep up the good work!

My greatgrandfather Samuel F. Porer invented the sump pump, and with others had the Porter Boyce Pump Works in Connelsville. I would be interested in any information in regard to this business and or My greatgrandfather. I plan to come there and see what I can find in the news papers, and government offices. Thank you for any help you may have. I have been there with my Dad Samuel Porter, and he showed me where he lived in a brick triplex home up the hill from where the factory used to be.

I am so pleased to find this site. We are in Leesville Village where Colonel Crawford was captured on the Sandusky River which starts here in Leesville. We wanted to make a trip to Connellsville this past summer but were unable to. I hope next summer we can. Col. Crawford is a big part of our local history. Our county is named after him. We own an antique shop and always tell out-of-town visitors the story of Col. Crawfords bravery.

I LIVED IN CONNELLSVILLE FROM 1951-1962. MY HUSBAND'S NAME WAS EDWIN "SONNY" BULEBUSH. HIS UNCLE WAS MR. JOSEPH OPPMAN, OWNER OF OPPMAN AUTO PARTS AND OPPMAN MACHINE SHOP. WHILE I LIVED THERE, THERE WERE 3 AUTO PARTS STORES - SCOTTDALE, MT. PLEASANT, AND CONNELL- SVILLE; THERE WAS ONE MACHINE SHOP LO- CATED IN CONNELLSVILLE. WHILE I LIVED IN CONNELLSVILLE, I WORKED AT DAVIDSON'S (A WOMAN'S WEAR STORE RUN BY HARRY AND ISRAEL DAVIDSON, AND THEIR MOTHER), AND I WAS ORGANIST AT THE EAST LIBERTY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN VANDERBILT FOR 8 YEARS. MY FATHER-IN-LAW WAS GEORGE H. BULEBUSH, WHO WAS A CONDUCTOR FOR THE B & O RAILROAD AND WAS VERY WELL KNOWN FOR HIS HUNTING/FISHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS. IN 1962 WE RELOCATED TO LEVITTOWN, PA. ED PASSED AWAY 6/22/92, AND I MOVED TO NAPLES, FLORIDA TO LIVE WITH MY DAUGHTER/SON-IN-LAW, MR. & MRS. MATTHEW (DEBORAH) LEVINE. I WAS MOST SURPRISED TO LEARN OF THIS WEB SITE ABOUT CONNELLSVILLE, AND AM MOST IMPRESSED WITH THE CONTENT IN IT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. IT IS A SMALL TOWN, BUT ONE WITH A LOT OF HISTORY BEHIND IT THAT PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT. WOULD BE QUITE INTERESTED TO KNOW WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE OLD COKE OVENS.

Dear Friends, I am particularly interested in your Historic Connellsville site because I am researching the Connell family tree for my old high school friend, Jane Phillips. This summer, my oldest friend, Jane Phillips, visited me in NYC from Salt Spring Island, Bristish Columbia, Canada. Jame and I went to High School in Seattle together and graduated the Class of 1959. I grew up in the same neighborhood as she did and our familes knew each other. I do a lot of genealogy. Jane was interested. She had a long genealogical booklet with her on the Taylor/Davis side of her fathers family tree. The Taylor's came to Cape Cod soon after the pilgrims in about 1635 from England. The Davis's came from New England. Jane told me that she was interested in the Phillips side of the tree, which had not been researched. I began to research it. I soon found a marriage record for Jane's grandfather and discovered that his full name was Zachariah Connell Phillips. It was then that I got a lead on the Connell name and traced it back as far as I could, leading me to Connellsville, PA. I have found quite a few sources in the NYPL on Zachariah Connell and the founding of Connellsville, PA. I have found only a few lines on the Phillips family. Can you sent me a bibliography or some sort of list where I could find more on Zachariah Connell, John Wesley Phillips and his brother and other Phillips and Connells resources. Are any of these families on the Web? Would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you very much, you have a beautiful web site. I have printed out nearly everything . Thanks again, Charlotte R-N mariecsw@aol.com.

Looking for members of the Helms and Skelly families. Elizabeth Skelly married Edward Helms. Elizabeth had a brother who married one of Edward's sisters, Amanda. They were born in the later 1800's and Elizabeth's first child was born in 1900. We are also trying to organize a Helms family reunion in Connellsville in the summer of 2000. Would be a great way to start the new century off, by meeting cousins.

I am interested in knowing the address or E-Mail address for the Connelsville Historical Society. I have in my possession a bearer bond issued in 1920 by the CONNELLSVILLE FOUNDRY ,MACHINE AND STEEL CASTING COMPANY. It is an interesting old bond because it is payable in 'gold coin". Several of the coupons are still attached. I assume that this company failed. I've become interested in its fate. In Oct. I am planning a trip out to Connellsville.Your site has been of great interest to me as well as helping me find places to start my search. I had a great Uncle by the name of Giovanni Tosto (he may have used just John Tosto) who worked in one of the local coal mines and also ran a tavern in Connellsville. Unfortunatly he was in a mine explosion and died leaving a wife and two sons.My delema is I don't know when this happened But from what little information I have it may have happened in the late 20's or early 30's . WOuld I be able to research this family in your archives? Would appreciae an answer. Sincerely Dolores Galofaro

My brother, Joe, informed me of this web-page. I can't tell you how much I am enjoying it and reminissing. I am showing it to my 3 grown sons and they are getting a real kick out of seeing Connellsville, where their Mom grew up. Some of it is before my time, since I graduated from the New C'ville High in 1960, but my Dad was a B&O Railroad engineer, I especially enjoyed all the railroad pictures. It is all VERY enjoyable. I am very proud to be a member of the Connellsville, PA "family" - This site is very inspiring. My husband was born and raised in Connellsville on Crawford Avenue. We now live in his home place. Two of my children graduated from CHS. I have lived in and around this area most of my life from Uniontown to the Mountains around White and Normalville. I love it here and I would recommend this as a place to raise children.

Your site is great. You have made all of us from that locality proud. We are from the Dickerson Run/Vanderbilt area. I graduated from Dunbar Twp. High in 1941. I retired from the USAF and we have lived in Florida the past 35 years. We still visit the Tri-town area most every year. Thank you for bringing Fay-West back to all of us.

The last two times I visited Connellsvile were for funerals. It is nice to visit via this site for a reason that is less sad. I was born on Crawford in May of 1936. I have two brothers; Ray and Paul. Ray was also born in town during 1931. My father and mother's name is Ray and Helen. My uncle Frank worked for the Connellesville post office and died one year ago. Charles Ellis

I'm not from Cville but I my wife is so every year we go back. It is a beautiful area. Espeically coming from the flatlands of the Midwest. Oh yeah my wifes name is Mary Ellen Lieb GHS 72. Her brother George lives in Alabama but his favorite place in the world is the River in CVILLE. Her sister Eleanor Lieb still lives in Cville along with her Aunt. You have done a nice job with the web site. It is nice reading about this town. I do hope that it come back. It is sad to read how many people have had to move away. But it is nice to know that so many people have such fond memories of growing up there.

Enjoyed the web site. It brought back lots of memories from our childhood. We are 66 and 67 graduates of CAHS. Left C'ville in 68. We return to visit family a couple times a year. Look forward to hearing from old friends and former classmates. While reading through the guest book we noticed several familiar names including my sister from Atlanta.

Sort of disappointed that nobody from the CHS class of 1940 hasn't logged in as yet. I've checked out your website and give it an AA++!! I also have ties to Connellsville. My Father and Mother grew up in the area surrounding Connellsville. I am descended from Col. Crawford, my 5th Great Grandfather, through his daughter Effie who married William McCormick. I have been working on our family genealogy for over two years. Some of the main names I am working on: Stouffer, Harshman, Hawk, Minor, Mcmanus, Heck, Nicola, and Grawl. When I am done finding all my family-- I could end up being related to the whole world!

I am a Canadian citizen, yet I was never in Connellsville. I heard about that community because it was served by the West Penn Railways, the electric interurban trolley that operated up to August 1952 that did an excellent job in providing public transportation for the public in Connellsville and other Western Pennsylvania communities! I know a lot of the old-timers who may be reading this site sure have fond memories riding on the electric interurban trolley. The reason I am writing is my then father had a job assignment at Dillinger Distillaries over in Ruffsdale from 1945 until 1947 when the company folded up because of financial difficulties. This required a family move to Greensburg, Pennsylvania when I was one year old and left at the age of three as I have fond memories riding with my then parents on the electric interurban trolley of the West Penn Railways from Greensburg to Mount Pleasant, also going into Pittsburgh for medical checkups, shopping and etc. That was the America in a less technological and a more simpler time! At that time my then parents, my then grandmother moved from White Plains to Greensburg and two years later moved to Scarsdale, some of the numerous places I lived in, no time to go into detail because it is a long and involved story before moving to Canada with my then parents to find a better place to live.
