I'm sorry to say that as a Connell I have yet to visit your obviously beautiful city. Your website exhibits pride that the family would be proud of. My last two generations have lived in IL but after a short time in Atlanta, my family and I reside in VA. You'll be happy to note that I did marry a beautiful lass from DuBois PA. If I can just convince her Italian family that she is really Irish, maybe she and I and our lovely daughter Kathleen would return to the homeland once least for a visit!

My earlier message needs slight corrections. I got so excited when discovered this Web that I garbled some of the info. My grandfather Charles Hood built he railroad spur at the beginning of the century and operated it as late as the 1930 era. They hauled coal and timber from the mountains. He also built a sluce which carried mine drainage from the mountains and directed it into the Yough. He also had a factory called Highland Electric. I left C,vle at age 13 in 1939. Father had died and grandfathers enterprizes had pretty much dried up. His home was on Isobel road. It was very large as indicated by it,s picture which I have in my posession. Love your website!

My grandfather, Charle Hood, built and operated the Indian Creek Valley Railroad back in the 20,s. I moved from Connellsville in 1943 but retain some fond memories of the area. My father, Joseph D was somewhat of a WW1 hero and is burried in Hill Grove cemetery. I retain news clippings of him, my great grandfather and other tidbits from the early part of this past century. I understand my grandfathers railroad is now a hiking trail. If you would have any brochures o this trail I would certainly appreciaterecieving one. Address: Joseph Hood 310 woodlawn drive Mercer Pa 16137 Thank you.

To be honest i had never heard about Connellsville until i bought some diecast cars from Yough diecast and thought i would see if you had a town site. Buying through internet auctions leaves one thinking where am i buying this from. Anyway it is odd that there are many simularities with the area that I live in. Chorley is in the NW of England, a bit across from Manchester and a bit N of Liverpool. It too was a mining area, mainly open cast and old bell shaped mines. If one buys a house the building socety(who lend you the money) insist on a mining survey. Just down the road in Horwich is the old Locomotive works. Still standing but not in use as a loco works anymore. Chorley was believed to be the home of Myles Standish. He left for America around 1630 and settled near Plymouth Colony. Some of the dates/origins etc are open to question and there was some meddling with dates and records at the time. I was looking for a map. Have not had a good look around the site yet. all the best Chris Pryor

I am a descendant of Col. William Crawford through his daughter Ophelia (Effie) Crawford and her husband William McCormick. The advent of the Internet and informative web pages such as this one, have made genealogical research much easier than before. I would like to invite other descendants of Col. Crawford to share their genealogical information with me and I will be happy to share my information. Some of my information concerning Col. Crawford's birth date differs from yours, but pinpointing his birth has long been a source of contention. Thanks again for an informative web site.

Great job on your web site. Graduated Connellsville Sr. High in 1975. Graduated University of Md in 1981. Presently a Special Agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Check out the May 1999 issue of People Magazine - You can read about my 15 seconds of fame. The story pertains to the double murder investigation I conducted. Presently, a book is being written about the murders. Two college students were brutally murdered while parked at Lake Juliette. Case was unsolved for two years. After being assigned the case, I identified the killer as being the son of a FBI Agent. The son is now on death row. A very sad case. The two college students were great kids and had promising futures. I still think about them (Patrick & Michelle) every day. Michelle wanted to become a Doctor. She was a very beautiful and intelligent girl. Grant was an engineer major. They were two kids very much in love when they were killed by a total stanger. Planning a trip to Connellsville in July. Keep up the great work.

This is my second visit to your inspirational site. As before it brings back many vivid, and pleasant memories from my childhood. Having spent the first six years growing up in Ruffsdale, and having most of my family living in C'ville and Uniontown, I always have a longing for the home that I still love so much.Owning my own small business, I frequently run into folks from Fayette Co. here in Indiana. The connection I feel to them is like seeing old freinds again. You can take the boy out of western Pa , but...... well you know the rest. Keep up the good work, a lot of us really appreciate it.

Zachariah Connell was my 5th great-grandfather. Zachariah's son, John Rice Connell, John's daughter Rebecca Connell, and her daughter Sarah Connell Smith all lived in Ohio. My second great-grandfather David Evans Daugherty moved the family to Iowa in the late 1800s.By 1940 the family history was confused. Zachariah's 2nd Great-Grand daughter, Rose Daugherty wrote a letter in 1942 to my grandmother Jean Daugherty (Zach's 3rd Great-Grand daughter) describing how the family came from O'Connellsville, Ohio. It was fun finding your site and getting a chance to read up on Connellsville history, and the family role in it. My records show that Zach's grandfather was Thomas Connell, born 1678 in St Mary's County, MD. Thomas married Mary Ogden. Thomas's father was James Connell, born in Ireland, died 1700 in St. Mary's County, MD. James married Mary Carson. Zachariah had two brothers born after him, Thomas and James. James was born in 1742.

My Zimmerman Family started in Bullskin Twp. in 1793 with my 7th Great-GrandFather Jacob Zimerman land purchase from a James Stephenson, Executor for Richard Stephenson for land known as Mounts Creek & Irishman Run. My Father was born in Connellsville in 1916, his GrandFather Lindley Newcomer fought with the 7Th Pa. Cavalry, Company L.and was a POW. My Father and Mother Milly owned and operated Walt's Grocery Store on Fairview Ave. from 1941 to 1973 before retiring to Az. Walt was active in sports (Class Of 1935), he ran track with John Woodruff and also played Basketball, his team of 1937-38 went on to win the Westinghouse sponsored,City,County Championship in which I have the team photo, Walt sponsored his own semi-pro team (Walt's), team photo also. I would like to see a area on this sight for photos from the past on Sports in Connellsville, as we all know plays a large part in the History of Connellsville. Thank you very much for bringing all the memories and histories together on your Web Page, my Father would have enjoyed this a lot. Walt Zimmerman Jr.

I attended Junior High and High School in Connellsville. I have a lot of fond memories of the town. I played a lot of baseball during the summer at East Park ball field, where we had to fish many baseballs from the creek beyond the fence in right field. My father, Charles Dale, was a former pastor of Calvary Assembly of God.

This is a great website. I can't wait to show my dad. He was born in Connellsville in 1913 and is still going strong! My Mother, Mary Elizabeth Madden, was also born in 1913, in Vanderbilt. She passed away in November of 1997.Dad loves to talk about his old hometown and it seems like all the stories keep getting better and better the more he tells them. My dad worked at the Bennet Trouser Company. He was also a local ameteur boxer. His Dad (my Grandfather)worked for the P&LE Railroad. Anyone familiar with Frank Pinto or his brothers Pete and Mike and sister Mary, or my mother Mary, please contact me and I will pass it on to my Dad. My Dad may have some pictures to add to this website.

My Mother, Catherine Landefeld Noecker Mullen enjoys this website. She wants to add her memories. Born in South Connellsville in 1908 - where the entrance to Anchor Hocking is now. Her parents were Christian and Mary Landefeld. They later moved up to First St. She attended a one room school house on Hyman St. and later Gibson School. She worked for Harold Wills in the A&P Store next to Mrs. Lee's store for many years. She enjoyed hiking the mountains, camping at Bear Rocks and the South Connellsville beach. She had four sisters that all stayed in the Connellsville area: Jennie McLaughlin, Elizabeth Armen, Anna Rushton, Gladys Murphy. Five brothers: Christ, Bill, Ed, Carl (Mox), and Charles (Dub). She now resides in Lorain, Ohio.

Good old Connellsville. I worked at the Soisson theater in 1943 while attending DTHS. We worked about 50 hours a week as I recall.I know the pay was $7 a week less 7cents for social security tax.Ah the good old days and now I'm collecting on that tax.It looks better every year.Congratulations for a great past and an even grander future.Best Wishes,BILL CORRISTAN

Looking for anyone who might have information on a family that lived in Connellsville about 1920 - 1965 or more. The father was Joseph McNall DAWSON born about 1897. His wife was Edith Schofield DAWSON and they had four girls. I remember them coming to visit us when I was child. My grandfather was George Howard DAWSON - Joseph's brother. Please contact me if you have any information.

Having both been born and raised in Connellsville and graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in 1953 we feel that we had a wonderful head start. The lifestyle and moral code acquired has remained imbedded in our fiber. We have wonderful memories of life in an unfettered time when family was our whole life. It was great to attend our 50's reunion in 1999 and visiting the old haunts. Our memories will forever be in our hearts and minds.Hello to our many friends and relatives. Long live Connellsville.

I made my first visit to Connellsville on February 27,2000. To visit my boyfried Larry M. He gave me a tour of your town..I really enjoyed your park by the river..Enjoyed watching the ducks play in the water. But one thing you should do is clean up the road sides and the banks by the river..Other then that it's nice town..

Taking a lunch break and thought I would check-in. Since I stumbled on the site I see more and more folks taking a peek and sharing. Wonderful! I have gotten so much pleasure out of the new friendships that have developed from the "Swan's Drug Store" question. How does that saying go? The circle of life? All roads lead home? To my new (old) friends forgive me for my lack of communication of late. No excuses other than busy. Please send me a nudge now and again. I am wondering just who the credit goes to for the ability to talk to so many with one e-mail? Whoever you maybe...thanks! You have given me much joy. To the former Ms. Rulli who now lives in U'town drop me a line. Smiles to all! Ann Ann
