What a happy surprise to click onto the Connellsville website and find such a wealth of information, presented in such an interesting manner! The snapshots of the area were of particular interest as we both were raised in Fayette County, Curt from Vanderbilt, and Ruth from Uniontown. In 1959 we moved to Florida but almost every summer we have been fortunate to be able to spend some time there with relatives and friends and even attend high school class reunions! We were particularly impressed with the Guest Book and through it made contact with a "lost" cousin in California! What a great idea! We commend you on the excellent website, evidenced by the professionalism and thought that brought it about. Thanks for making our day!

This Guest Book is a wonderful idea. I am glad there are so many people in C'ville that Love and Care about what is happening there. I graduated from C'ville High School in 1962 as a "COKER." My Great-Great Grandparents built the old Willard Hotel and owned the properties at the SW corner of Brimstone Corner. My father in-law was Ed Anderson that taught school in the High School system for over 30 years. He was a great teacher-even my own father had him. When I left the area upon graduation I was concerned about C'ville. It seemed to me that no one cared about the historical value of out wonderful little town. So many of the Historical buildings were then and continue to be torn down and new parking lots spring up. We need some real life back in our town. I miss my town especially in the Spring and Fall. I want to thank all of you who are trying to keep our valuable history going and I enjoy the pictures. I would love to see more OLD pictures Maybe we could start sharing Old pictures with each other in emails. I love photography and would surely enjoy seeing what others might have to share. Hope to get back to visit next year for my Class Reunion. Best of luck to all of you back in my home town of Connellsville, Pa. Would love to hear from old friends and new friends too...Gloria

I am a 2000 graduate and am now attending Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and majoring in Criminal Justice. I will deeply miss all the fun times I had at C'ville High School, from winning the W.P.I.A.L. team championships in wrestling and P.I.A.A. state runner-ups to just having fun at the high school in the library with Mrs. Halfhill. Love you guys and miss everybody from C'ville

Hello Connellsville, I have just discovered this web site and have enjoyed the notes and pictures of "home". I graduated from CAHS in '78. It would be great to hear from others from school or the Connellsville area. I am originally from South Connellsville and moved to Raleigh in '89 Love it here but the Connellsville area will always be home. I try to make it back about 3 or 4 times a year to visit my parents and always enjoy the visits.

What an incredible find. Moved from Connellsville in 1963. Would have been in the class of 1964. The pictures bring back many memories. A cyber visit made a special Thanksgiving treat to my aunt and uncle Evelyn and Harry Bryner. Through this website time and distance were traveled to visit many familiar spots. Remember the Dairy Queen? It was next to Geibel H.S. How about the Sinclair station and snackbar just down the street? They were the local businesses on the hill in the mid-late 50s and into the 60s. Remember the East End football team? The St. John or Joseph's cemetary and the parkers? I lived on Schultz next to the cemetary. Caliquire, Finello, Nicholson, Baylor, Snively, Basinger, and a whole host of others. Still have many family members there. Just discovered the fay-west site and spent time at the entry letters. Oh, don't forget Mrs. Woods at the Dairy Queen. The King family owned it at the time. Those were rough and tumble days to say the least. bobby jordan

As you go about your life today please take a moment to send your thoughts to Barry Stouffer. 12/26 Cindy Hogan Stouffer made an entry on the Guestbook asking for caring individuals to send an e-mail of hope and encouragement to Barry as he faces his battle with Renal Cancer. Today, 1/5/2001 Barry will be having surgery in an attempt to further his healing. With many voices sending their prayers the chorus of hope will be singing. At the same time take a minute to be thankful for all the blessing in your world. Annie

I had heard that my great grandfather had come from PA. He and his wife,(Jane Smith) went to Oregon approx. 1867. Their son, Thomas Percival Connell, I believe, was born there(?) in 1867. they all returned to Ontario and bot a farm house outside of Dundas ONT. in 1876. It was a grand house, and I'm curious how they made their money in Oregon to buy a large house and farm. If any info, pls advise: b.j.connell@sympatico.ca

As the Christmas holidays approach, I can't help think of Christmas in the 50's and 60's in Connellsville. The times before the shopping centers and malls. Friday and Saturday evenings Crawford ave and Pittsburg street were packed with shoppers. You could hardly move around the isles in Troutman's and Murphy's. Troutman's always had a Santa in the basement for us kids. Every now and then mom or dad would have to stop to talk to a friend, neighbor or relative that they would see shopping or walking between stores. We would always stop in Eddie Pichinskis (spelling) bakery near the south east corner of Crawford and Pittsburg ave for some goodies to take home. Eddie was a friend of my dad's so we would usually stay a while. Christmas shopping was actually fun back then! After christmas the city of Connellsville collected all of the xmas trees, took them down to East Park piled them up high and had a huge bonfire. Merry Christmas everybody! Anybody from the Geibel Class of '67, I'd like to hear from you!

I just wanted to responed to Randy Upton in GA. What a great find. I have found a couple of postcards here in Oregon from Connellsville. I am currently reading "Centennial History of the Borough of Connellsville" written in 1906 for the Centennial celebration. In the book there is a picture of the arch with flags hanging everywhere in town. I believe that the postcard you have is form that celebration held August 14 - 17, 1906.

I recently found an old post card which has a handwritten date of 1906 and the words 'Brimstone Corner'. The photograph depicts a stone-type gate with the initials HCFC Co on top of the gate. It must have been taken during an election or something because their are flags hanging down the street. I will copy the post card and send it to your web site.

I have just returned to Portland Oregon after my trip to Connellsville for Thanksgiving. I love this site. I have always had an appreciation for the history and architecture of Connellsville. Even more now than ever. A lot of history has been lost... the courthouse, train station, bridges the bank downtown and numerous others. I hope that this site will help to increase the interest in the history of the area and prompt the city council and other citizens to restore what was once a prosperous place. The last book that I know of written about the history of Connellsville was written in 1906, maybe it is time for another. Carol (Milton) Rahmig (Raw-mig). Daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Nathaniel Milton of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. Granddaugther of Shynauna and the late Larwence Gales. Connellsville Class of '85

See if you can figure out where this place is. In the hills of Pennsylvania, the place where I call home. There's a trail in the mountain, That leads to a big-big stone. Now this stone stands, bout 40 ft high, 50 ft wide, and seems to touch the sky. Now there's nothing special, bout this big stone, When your looking from a distance, Just sets there all alone. But as you get closer, aaaaaaaaah the things you'll see. A history of a family, since 1893. Now what um trying to tell ya, Is theirs names etched in that stone, Of family still living, Aaaah but, most a them are gone. My dad first took me there, round the age of three, Said son lemme show ya something, it's called, your "family tree". See there's your great great Grandfather, And there's your grandpa too. And here's my name, and this spots for you. Now I couldn't wait, till I reached the age of 10. So I could carve my name, mungst them other men. Well I finally got old enough and OHHHHH what a special day. I grabbed that hammer and chisel, then the trail led the way. N as I started to chisel, my name in that stone. A chill went through my body, like sumthin I never known. Then I started to realize, What my father had always known. We'll allllllllllways be together, carved there in that stone. Hope you liked it, Mark

I would just like to say that there is no place like fayette county. I grew up in Dunbar where there is peace and quiet. It is nice to be able to walk down the street knowing you will seea friendly familiar face. Being in the big city makes you realize how much of an enjoyment Fayette county acually is. It is the prettiest place on earth and I have been to a lot of different states and there is none quite like Fayette County. In closing: "THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME"

Hello From Italy, I just Want to Give an early Merry Christmas to all My friends in the United States.Do you remember the birth of your child? Can you still vision the first time you saw him? The joy you felt did it bring tears to your eyes? When you held him for the first time, did you want to tell the world "This is my son"? Did you praise god for this precious gift? Were you there when he took his first step? Do you remember the first time he used the potty? Wasn't his face hilarious the first time he ate on his own? Did it hurt the time he bit your finger? Did you praise God for this precious gift? Do you remember the fear when he chocked on a piece of candy? How tense were you the first time he rode a bike? Did you watch him like a hawk when he was on the swing? Did you panic the time he disappeared for just a minute in the mall? Did you praise God for this precious gift ? His first day of school was it exciting? And when he graduated was the pride overwhelming? Was it hard to let go when you realized he was a man? Did you praise God for this precious gift? All of these emotions you felt while your child was growing is a natural process of life. What we felt over the years for one child, God feels a billion times over each day? Three wise men brought gifts for a holy child laying in a manger. And so, we celebrate the birth of this holy child bringing gifts as the three wise men did. So lets all give the same gift this year. Its the greatist gift of all and it doesn't cost a dime. And if your not sure what this gift is? Add together all the emotions above to find the answer. "THEN PRAISE GOD FOR THIS PRECIOUS GIFT"

It's been about 7 or 8 years since I've been back home, there in Dunbar, and these photos came as an exciting shock, to say the least. I hope to bring my husband back next summer so that he can see how us "Damn Yankees" live. He calls me a "Damn Yankee" because I came to Florida and stayed. I really do miss the trees in the fall and just a little snow. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to communicate with my home. I may live in Florida, but my heart still belongs there in Fayette County.
