I was just in y'alls neck of the woods 2 weeks ago and words can never say how much I miss your little town! I grew up (14 yrs.) in South Connellsville, my grandfather was Pappy Bear of "Pappy Bears service station right along the river. It was so awesome seeing the old stomping grounds again and sharing the beauty that only Connellsville has with my 4 children and husband! Hey if any of ya remember me...please feel free to email anytime!

I think someone else is also affraid of using their name. You too like to make comments, but don't leave your name either. You know who I mean. You used the name "upset" below. Anyone who doesn't see that there is a problem in Connellsville is blind. Why else do people act like they do? Why else do people talk or type things like they do? If so many people think there is a problem, then just maybe they are right. Just so you know, my comment below was deleted. And if you too think that something needs to be done, then why don't you do something about it then. And why are you upset with what I said? The things I said were things that are true, and I think you know it...

I think that it is a shame that some people have to use filthy language to get their point across. I would visit this site often, because I have moved away from and Connellsville and would like to see if any old friends joined. I would sit with my two kids and read all the memories people have of Connellsville. But I guess now I have to read them first, before my kids read them. All because of people who are not afraid of being ignorant, but afraid of giving their name. If you don't like Connellsville MOVE....... Stop whinning and do something about it. Do the community a favorite and get a life.....

I hope that someone can audit, and delete some of the trash talking thats appeared in this guest book of late. If someone believes something is terribly wrong in their community then they should seek professional help, and not air the dirty laundry of their home town like this. There are still many good people left there who are trying to make it better I would advise you to seek them out and unite.

I moved from Connellsville to Johnstown four years ago and just recently graduated from Pitt-Johnstown. My friends from college, who have visited Connellsville, think Pechin's is an amazing place. Myself, I can not find words to properly express how I feel about Connellsville. I think Pat Soisson summed it up best when he wrote, 'Connellsville...what a town.'

It was good to visit the Connellsville website after not doing so for a year. Though raised in Connellsville, I was born in Utah. So, I have been to Utah twice in the past few years. As beautiful as the Salt Lake City area is, I cannot imagine having grown up anywhere but Connellsville. That doesn't mean the town was perfect, but it does mean that it was home. That counts for so much. Perhaps it causes us to take the town less for granted. There are more vibrant downtowns elsewhere, and other areas may have more amenities. But for the natural beauty of the setting, there are few places to rival it. How lucky I was to grow up amidst that natural beauty.

This website brings back sooooo many memories. I'm in Philly now and come back to C'ville once a year to see my parents and meet with friends. It looks like I'll be moving to London or Israel soon so I won't be able to get back too often in the near future. To my dear friends (both remembered and forgotten), please feel free to email me anytime! For those of you who are interested, I still keep in touch and visit Christiane in Germany on occassion so I can pass her email address on to those who would like to get in touch with her. Ok, that's it for now. Hope to hear from someone soon. All the best. -Nate ('92 CAHS)

What a wonderful site you have made. My mother was born in Adelaide and lived in Connellsville as a child. I was trying to find out information as to my grandfather's family and to get an idea how they lived, etc. It is one of the most interesting and educational sites that I have ever been on. You should be congratulated. I didn't find out about my family, but it contained information about how they lived. My mother left with her parents to move to NJ, about 1915. I couldn't believe what a thriving town Connellsville was. I just figured everyone lived in log cabins etc. Thank you for wonderful history. Sincerely yours, Rosalie Kulick

Hi, I am searching for information about my great, great grandfather Henry D. Reece. He lived in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties between 1838 and 1879. He fought with the 16th Cavalry, Company B during the Civil War. He married Mary Chain and moved to Kansas in 1879. I am looking for any information about his family...father, mother, brothers, sisters, cousins etc. and Mary Chain's family.

I have been in Az. for 29 years and youu still can not take that Pa. Boy out of me. My Father owned Walt's Store on Fairview Ave. from 1940-1973, Father and Mother are gone now but all that left are fine memories of Walt's. I followed my Father footsteps and became a Butcher, The last 28 years I have worked for Fry's Food Stores(Kroger Owned). People tell me about the fine Meats and homemade cheese spreads Dad used to make. Would love to hear from people who shopped my Fathers Store. We lived in that very large 3 story Yellow brick home across from Walt's. To all the folks in Connellsville have a Happy Easter! Walt& Louann Zimmerman

My Great Great Grandma Cable lived there as well as her kids who include Jesse, Wilbur, Lloyd, James and Ann Foreman. Lloyd (who is 95), James and Ann are still alive. Jesse and Wilbur (my Pap) passed away. I loved being able to spend the weekends at their house when I was little, my two aunts would take me and we would take turns staying at Jim's and Lloyds. I have such wonderful memories of them. To this day we still frequent up there for Sunday drives to visit and now I bring my own three year old daughter. Thank you for setting up the Connellsville website. I am very proud of being born in Connellsville in 1947. Your website is a great beginning. Both my Grandpaps, William Harbaugh and Ora Travis worked on the B & O in Connellsville. My Father Harold Harbaugh worked at Mountain Water Supply at Indian Creek (no longer there)where the Indian Creek met the Yough. At age 5 we moved to Ohio. I know my Father, now deceased, wished we didn't have to move. We still visit the area and enjoy the mountains and visit friends and relatives. I am a bank manager and am a railfan. I own my own piece of B&O history, a real trackcar used by the B&O in Cumberland during and after WWII. I use it and it runs great!!! I usually run it on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.

I was born and raised in Connellsville from 1938-1950 and ever since I moved away I have always wanted to come back. When I found this wonderful web site it brought back memories of the Soisson, Orpheum and Paramont theaters, East Park, basketball games at the Armory, Judy & Jean's Bakery, Bud's changing from a grocery/soda fountain to the fantastic Sports Bar that it is today. I remember Rose's Ice Cream plant, Holister's Grill, Sopolski's Meats and Mrs. Spinelli's small wedge shaped store, and all the friends I made while attending ICHS. Would love to here from anyone who remembers me.

When I first found this site in July, 2000, I printed out a picture of town with the river and a couple pictures of the mountains and the river in the fall. These pictures are on the wall in my office and I see them each time I sit at my desk. When I first showed them to my co-workers they were impressed and envious. They asked me how I could ever leave such a beautiful area. I often wonder that myself. So, every day, I am reminded of my hometown. And each time I look up and see these pictures, I smile because of all the wonderful memories they represent. Thank you.

Connellsville is my birthplace. Although I haven't lived there since I've been 8 years old, my family still resides there, so I do consider it "home." The Connellsville area is probably by far the most beautiful area of the country. There is nothing like a view from the mountains in the fall. It's a sight you never tire of seeing. I'd like to commend the creators of the Connellsville website. I certainly have enjoyed reading the various pages, especially on the history of Connellsville. It's funny how you live or at least visit an area all of your life and you really don't know much about the history and the people who helped build the area. My mother, Dorothy Hann, is a member of Connellsville Area Historical Society and I know she has taken a lot of pride in what the society has done to perserve the city's history. I know where ever she travels she always "brags" about her home in Connellsville, PA. Thanks for the opportunity to submit my comments. Janice Hann
